The Masai Mara offers exceptional wildlife viewing year-round. The Great Migration typically occurs between July to October, when wildebeest and zebra cross the Mara River. January,February, June and July also offer excellent game viewing with fewer crowds. The rainy seasons are March to May (long rains) and November (short rains), when the landscape is lush and birdlife is abundant.
The official currency is the Kenyan Shilling (KES). US dollars are widely accepted, though smaller establishments may prefer local currency. We recommend carrying a mix of both for convenience.
